Metronidazole is an antibiotic that is used to treat a wide variety of infections. This effect is harmless and will disappear when the medication is stopped. Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in oral thrush or a new yeast infection. Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge, or other new symptoms. Use sunscreen For gel with applicator products : If available, read the patient package insert. Read instructions carefully. Insert into the vagina as directed. Avoid alcohol during therapy & 24 hrs after. Usually used at bedtime. Avoid alcohol in drinks, foods, and medicines. Refrain from intercourse during therapy. Call doctor if you are not better in 5 days. For lotion products : For external use only. Wash hands before and after using. Clean and dry skin, then use a thin layer on area. Keep away from eyes. Avoid sun lamps/prolonged direct sun. Call doctor if you are not better in 3 weeks. Ask doctor before use in other conditions. Follow directions on best place to keep drug supply. For tablet products : Avoid alcohol during and for 3 days after therapy. Take with food or milk to lessen stomach upset. Take with meals at evenly spaced intervals. May make you dizzy. Use caution when driving. Success is dependent on completing therapy course. May darken urine while taking this drug. Review all drugs you are taking with your doctor. Do not drink alcoholic beverages when using this medication. Check all medicine or food labels to help avoid hidden sources of alcohol. If this medication upsets your stomach, take it with crackers, bread or a small meal. May cause dizziness This drug may impair the ability to operate a vehicle, vessel (e.g., boat), or machinery.
