What is CURES? The Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES), maintained by the Department of Justice (DOJ), is a platform that tracks all Schedule II – IV controlled substances dispensed to patients in California.
What are the requirements for using cures in California?Authorized CURES users must comply with California Code of Regulations, title 11, chapter 8.5 and all applicable provisions of California Health and Safety Code, division 10, chapter 4. There is no expectation of privacy on this system as it is being audited and monitored.
What is cures (controlled substance utilization review and evaluation system)?CURES (Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System) is a database of Schedule II, Schedule III, Schedule IV and Schedule V controlled substance prescriptions dispensed in California serving the public health, regulatory oversight agencies, and law enforcement.
Who can submit queries to the cures database?An approved health care practitioner or pharmacist may submit queries to the CURES database through a health information technology system if the entity that operates the health information technology system can certify meeting the requirements specified in HSC section 11165.1 (a) (1) (E).
